Employee Spotlight – John Garrett

  1. How did you get started in the motor repair industry? 
    I got started as a parts cleaner and helper getting all the components cleaned, prepped and ready for assembly.
  1. What is your favorite thing about working for Jay? 
    The culture!  There are plenty of places to repair electric motors, but not all are created equal.  Jay has always had a way of doing what it takes to help the customer but also making sure that its employees feel valued.
  1. Name one thing not many people know about you. 
    I have a woodworking shop at home and build custom furniture for family and friends.
  1. Who has been the most impactful person in your career at Jay? 
    John Gallagher Sr.  One day on my lunch break I was sitting outside eating a sandwich because I was way to dirty from washing parts to eat in the breakroom.  Mr. Gallagher at that time was the CEO of Jay and I’ll never forget him sitting down next to me on a wire bucket and having lunch with me.  And I will never forget him telling me that what I was doing at jay was just as important as any job we had, and I should be proud of the job I was doing.
  1. What is your favorite sports team? 
    Roll Tide!
  1. When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? 
    Professional Football Player.
  1. What is your favorite holiday? 
    Christmas
  1. What is the best vacation you have ever been on? 
    In 2015, we went to the Worlds largest hot air balloon festival in Albuquerque, NM.  There were over 500 hot air balloons in the air at once and it was like nothing I’d ever seen before.
  1. Do you have any siblings?  
    I have an older brother and younger sister.      
  1. Do you have any kids?
    I have 3 boys- Evan who is 15, Jack who is 10 and Grant who is 8.
  1. What are you most proud of?
    My family!  They are the reason I do what I do. 
  1. Do you have any pets?
    2 dogs- Charlie and Bruno
  1. What are some of your hobbies? 
    Playing guitar, woodworking, landscape design, hunting and fishing
  1. What was your first job? 
    Mowing lawns in my neighborhood at 10
  1. I am afraid of:
    snakes give me the heebs!
  1. Who or what makes you laugh? 
    Almost anything, I’m very lighthearted and don’t take to many things seriously.
  1. I can’t live without: 
    My family obviously but something a little less serious would have to be sports. I am huge fan of competition and what it brings out of people.
