Our Birmingham Service Center recently won a bid to rewind a Westinghouse 20MW, 13,800v, 3600 rpm gas turbine generator. Our team will rewind the stator, upgrade the unit to a class F design, and rewind the rotor with a class F insulation upgrade. Jay Industrial’s field service team performed the structural demo of the building to remove the generator and obtained “heavy load” permits from 3 states in bringing the generator back to Birmingham. After rewinding the unit, Jay Industrial will complete the turnkey project by installing, aligning and performing all electrical connections. Start up services will be completed by our field engineers. This unit, weighing right at 100,000 pounds, is the largest unit Jay has ever received in our service center. Currently, the Birmingham Service Center also has a 25MW rewind in-house and just completed rewind and repair of a 10MW unit.

ABB Permanent Magnet Motor Repair
Our Montgomery Service Center recently test ran a spare ABB Permanent Magnet motor for a large paper company. As an ABB AVP service provider Jay Montgomery and Birmingham centers have the trained knowledge, Variable Frequency Drives and equipment to service these unique AC machines. This machine will go into service soon and its sister will come out for a possible rotor replacement.
This machine is a ABB AMZ, 420kw, 205 RPM running at 17.08Hz. These synchronous machines are becoming very popular in all industries due to their ability to operate at low synchronized speeds without the need for gearboxes and other speed reducers.

Natural Gas Turbine Generator Stator Rewinding
Our team just finished rewinding a 13,800 volt, 25MW ASEA natural gas turbine generator stator in our Birmingham Service Center. The unique coil design was manufactured at Precision Coil and Rotor, our sister company. We provide turn key services for industrial motors and generators primarily in the southeast.
